Temporis Gala Awards 2017

The 6^th Edition of TEMPORIS GALA AWARDS took place at Athenee Palace Hilton in Bucharest, Romania, with the status of leading Gala dedicated to watch industry in the entire region. With this unique occasion, TEMPORIS magazine celebrated 10-th Anniversary!

This year, the International Jury of TEMPORIS chose from a number of hundreds of watches, no less than 72 nominations for 12 categories. For the first time, these 12 categories have been enriched with a new one: TEMPORIS Best Perpetual Calendar, another original idea coming from the TEMPORIS editorial team, like the whole concept.

After the complex selection process performed by the Jury, more than 10.000 people entered in www.temporis.ro to look for their preferences. Finally, the winners are decided by the people interested in watches, following the latest modern trends on horlogerie.

The members of the Jury are coming from 9 countries, with 1 new member added this year, from Croatia: Dubravka Tomekovic Aralica – well known watch journalist.

The evening opened with a special moment: the celebration of the first 10 years of existence for the TEMPORIS publication, the first Romanian magazine dedicated to watches and the horology phenomenon, an original concept, made in Romania, unanimously appreciated by the whole industry and also by the world of collectors and watch aficionados.

TEMPORIS achieved in a decade true unique world premieres and performances: the first magazine in the world that had actively fought against the fakes, even before the campaign launched by Fondation de Haute Horlogerie, having a dedicated column for this; the first magazine from Europe who treated the smartwatch movement, many times our predictions being true in the following years; the first magazine that gives annually prizes with unique categories in the world; the first magazine that created a Hall of Fame in the global world of horology; the first magazine in the world who granted the `The Genuine Brand ` award to the global brands who managed to remain authentique, genuine, becoming a reference in the world of brands; the first national magazine that visited manufactures and realized reportages from there; the first national publication that published world exclusives offered by celebrities of the horology phenomenon including the late Nicolas G. Hayek, who was a big admirer of TEMPORIS – according to his own statements.; the first magazine from Romania that attended the most important fairs, each year, like SIHH and BASELWORLD; the first national magazine that offered a complete universe to its readers by treating the horology from the technical aspects to the novelties, from the historical perspective to the interviews, collectors and watchmakers opinion and dedicated pictorials and, not for last, the first and only magazine in the world having the iconic motto: MY WATCH, MY TIME.

During the Gala we had the honor to share the greetings received from important names of the industry: Jean-marc Pontroue from Roger Dubuis, Patrik Hoffmann from Ulysse Nardin, Tim & Bart Gronefeld (members of TEMPORIS Hall of Fame), Jean-Marc Widerrecht (member of Hall of Fame), Richard Mille (member of Hall of Fame). More messages will be published in the next edition of TEMPORIS magazine.

Jean-Claude Biver, President of the LVMH watch division, sent a video message with a very emotional statement: “Thank you for the prizes obtained by Tag Heuer, Zenith, and Hublot! I thank you Dan Vardie, my dear friend, and I thank TEMPORIS magazine. I wish I was there with you, it was impossible for me but I thank you with all my heart! What elese? I just wanted to be there with you!”

2 new brilliant watchmakers became members of our HALL OF FAME:

Ludwig Oechslin – the genius behind the Ulysse Nardin watches. “Thank you for welcoming me in this galery. On the this Awards Gala I can say that it was good, fun. I met a lot of nice and interesting people, I had the chance to see the nice atmosphere that you have here, also in the city. I am also a founding member of Grand Prix D’Horlogerie de Geneve, and we are working for a few years to make it better and I will take this evening as an example. I really did not expect such a great atmosphere and such a great evening! Thank you very much and Dan you really made a great work here!”.

Andreas Strehler – the holder of the world record regarding the lunar complications.”Thank you for ths wonderful evening, I am a little surprised to recieve this prize here in Bucharest, but it is really fantastic.”.

As a beginning of a new tradition, on stage, we had the pleasure to have another 3 legends, members of our Hall of Fame: Kurt Klaus of IWC, Mathias Buttet from Hublot and Jean-Marc Wiederrect, who were welcoming the new members.

Today, TEMPORIS Hall of Fame is including no less than 20 legends of haute horlogerie. In the last 5 years, all these personalities visited Bucharest and participated to the TEMPORIS Awards Gala.

The Jury give every year a special award- for this prize are voting exclusively the Jury members, and this year the award goes to Fabergé Visionnaire Chrono. Its creator, Jean-Marc Wiederrecht, a proud member of TEMPORIS Hall of Fame, was present and very happy to receive the prize: ”For its tenth anniversary Temporis adds three great watchmakers to its amazing Hall of Fame. I am very proud and honored to have been selected last year to be among so important contemporary watchmakers. What Mr. Dan Vardie has achieved in only ten years with its leading magazine Temporis is amazing. His ideal to gather most of the actual master watchmakers and his capacity of doing so is totally unique and has never been realized anywhere else. Not only I and certainly the actual members of the Temporis Hall of Fame, but also the entire watch industry, are greatly indebted to Mr. Dan Vardie. Becoming a member of this prestigious Hall of Fame is an important recognition and requires each member to always push the boundaries of its skills and imagination in order to deserve to remain part of it”, Wiederrecht said during the Gala.

Patrik Hoffmann, CEO of Ulysse Nardin send us a very inspiring message: “Congratulations to the 10th Anniversary of TEMPORIS, the leading watch magazine in Romania. Over the last 10 years, TEMPORIS has set new standards not only for Romania but globally, by leading various ‘firsts’ in the world of horology and watchmaking. Best wishes to the team of Temporis to many more decades of dedication to the world of watchmaking and extraordinary craftsmanship.”.

To pick up the prize Ekaterina Kolpakova, brand manager Ulysse Nardin, decared on the stage: “On the behalf of Ulysse Nardin, we are deeply honored to receive such an important prize, from such an important magazine. Thanks to the readers and the magazine for making this possible”.

TEMPORIS Best Perpetual Calendar 2017 – IWC Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph

Mr. Porfir Popescu, Managing Partner Galt orologerie elvetiana went on stage along the legend Kurt Klaus, who came for the second time to Bucharest to attend our event. Mr. Kurt Klaus delivered an amazing statement on stage, receiving this prize: “I am so happy to be again here, in Bucharest, on stage, for my dear friend Dan Vardie and I am extremely happy to receive this award for my favorite child, the Perpetual Calendar. Also, I must say this this award comes as a recognition for a tremendous year for IWC, already, because we are in year of the Da Vinci Code, and this code is in fact the code of beauty for IWC. Thank you TEMPORIS magazine for everything“.

TEMPORIS Best Everyday Man’s Watch 2017 – Zenith Chronomaster El Primero Range Rover Velar Special Edition

To pick up the prize, Mr. Lorin Bancescu, Marketin Manager from Galt orologerie elvetiana declared on stage:“We are honored as always to receive a prize at TEMPORIS Gala Awards, especialyy for this fantastic piece from Zenith. It is a double anniversary and a double occasion to celebrate, as also Galt orologerie elvetiana celebrates 20 years and we are very happy, along Mr. Jean-Claude Biver to be part of the TEMPORIS success”.

TEMPORIS Best Bargain 2017 – TAG Heuer Carrera Heuer 02 Tourbillon.

To pick-up the award on stage, Corey Hunke – Country Manager TAG Heuer made this statement: “We thank you very much for this award, and this is what we do at TAG Heuer, we offer the best value for the money and it seems that the public has also appreciated this fact. For us, Romania is a super importnat market and we thank Romanians for their love of the TAG Heuer brand”.

TEMPORIS Bad Boy’s Watch 2017 – Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon

To pick-up the prize, we had the honor to have on stage Mathias Buttet, director of R&D for Hublot, who presented us the watch and declared: “We thank you for this prize and we are very happy and proud to present to the world a type of modern horology at Hublot, which is the result of the tremendous work and performance of Jean-Claude Biver and Ricardo Guadalupe”.

TEMPORIS Best Electric Girl’s Watch 2017 – Baume & Mercier Promesse Moonphase.

Receiving the prize, on behalf of Baume & Mercier, Laurentiu Garjoaba from Helvetia, declared: “I am deeply honored and of course emotional for receiving this prize, maybe it was right for a lady to pick up this prize, but, we men are alwayd giving as presents the watche for our ladies, so once again thank you”.

TEMPORIS Best Electric Boy’s Watch 2017 – Seiko Astron GPS Solar Big-Date The Novak Djokovic Limited Edition

To pick up the prize, Patricio Testart, Marketing and Sales Manager Seiko made the following statement: “We are very happy to receive this special prize and we like to thank TEMPORIS magazine for its contribution to the whole international horology industry”.
