The IX-th TEMPORIS INTERNATIONAL GALA AWARDS

Successfully Debuted in Zurich, Switzerland

The best 13 watches in the World has been announced

14.10.2022, Zürich: The ninth edition of the TEMPORIS International Awards (TIA) took on new major developments. For the first time in more than 10 years history of the independent watch prize, the coveted awards were presented in Zurich, at the Baur au Lac. The numerous invitation only guests list included key executives from the watch industry, representatives of the Official partner VINFAST and sponsor Bodega Otazu, Swiss influencers, members of the TEMPORIS Hall of Fame, The TIA Jury members and the 13 lucky winners of the lottery reserved for the people – at this edition coming from Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy and Germany- who voted on www.temporis.watch the winning watches of the Gala.

“Welcome to Zurich” was how host Alexandra Maurer opened the evening on the stage of the Petit Palais at the Baur au Lac and welcomed the almost 100 international guests, the maximum capacity of Petit Palais. The Zurich native led through the evening with ease, introducing not only the concept and history of the TEMPORIS Award, but also founder Dan Vardie. `I could not have been more happier to hold the prestigious awards Gala on an international level and to celebrate it for the first time in the country of haute horlogerie.` Dan Vardie said

This year edition is coming with some records. Out of 72 finalists, no less than 49 watch brands got nominations. Of these, 13 have 2, 3 or even 4 nominations. As a premiere, no less than 4 models been nominated more than once. With 88% of all the nominations, the Swiss watch industry dominates this edition of TIA. There are only 6 non-Swiss brands who managed to make the Finalists list. Along with `usual suspects` Germany and Japan, we welcomed Belgium, Austria, France and Netherlands.

This year not only continued the famous 21-st century approach introduced a decade ago, but also developed the concept with new frontiers. For the first time, TIA pioneered the `Startup watch` category. New is also `Sustainability` category, where the Jury selected the most spectacular watches made of recycled materials but also watches using solar energy, probably the best green source we can have nowadays in the watchmaking universe.

`We are proud to say that TEMPORIS International Awards is not only really independent but also the most complete selection of any kind of watches we have nowadays on the planet. It is the genuine, authentique competition who established itself as a trend setter, leaving others to follow.` Dan Vardie said on Petit Palais stage.

During the gala dinner `spiced` with magical entertainment, the winners of the 13 nominated categories were honored. The big winner of the evening was the Japanese brand Grand SEIKO, which took home two coveted prizes for the fabulous Kodo Constant Force Tourbillon: `The Jury Watch of the Year` and `The Watch of the Year`! On stage to deliver
the Watch of the Year prize, key members of the Jury been present: Stefano Macaluso, Patrik Hoffmann, Jan Lidmansky, Radu Budes, Vidas Rachlevicius. It is the first time when one watch model is winning 2 awards, the key one reserved to the 22 personalities in the TIA Jury and the biggest award voted by the worldwide public

The awards are the result of the legendary voting process of TIA who pioneered a decade ago the Jury voting the 6 Finalists for each category and public voting the winners. This edition, more than 10 million people from more than 70 countries around the world get in contact with the TIA and had the possibility to vote – for the first time- for the Best Watches in the World. The decision on the 13th category, “The Jury Watch of the Year 2022”, is reserved for the jury members. The 13 categories are unique and shed light on the watch world from a contemporary perspective.

In tune with its own tradition, the Grand Finale of the Gala ended with the induction of a new member into the TEMPORIS Hall of Fame -THOF. In the presence of other members of THOH, legends like Carole Kasapi, Kurt Klaus, Andreas Strehler or Stephen McGonigle, the brilliant master watchmaker Konstantin Chaykin became a member. `To me is a huge honor to be admitted as a member of TEMPORIS Hall of Fame. And to be on the same stage with legends like the people around me, is like a dream!` Chaykin said.

Another highlight was provided by the Official partner VINFAST. The Vietnamese automobile and electric motorcycle manufacture is one the newest fast-growing start-ups in the car industry with big inroads on the global markets. As a premiere for Zurich and Switzerland, VINFAST presented the VF8 model, exclusively displaced to be admired at Baur au Lac entrance. The very same car unit is displayed after at the Paris Mondial de l’Automobile, the international motor show of France.

The Spanish family -owned Bodega Otazu near Pamplona, kindly offered Cava Methode tradtionelles and the premium wines of the night.
